That's right! I did see that. Wonder how I forgot about it. Not like the original source vanished from the forums or anything.

Something tells me Josh will be much more excited than myself, though.

The first one is supposed to.  But not the sequel.  But that's all right because the sequel is ridiculously hard, so I'm okay with not being able to play the second one.

The one on Steam, yes.  Though from what I understand, it's just running the game in DosBox, so I may just get that so I don't have to pay for a game that I already have bought three or four times by now.

I for one will get it. Is only $5 not even 2 gallons on gas.

The one thing that would make me consider paying for it yet again is the possibility that a new X-COM game could be made if the ones on Steam sell well enough.  But I'm not holding my breath for that.  If I hear that could happen, though, I'll buy it.

Does that mean that Valve owns the X-COM license now? Or it is open yet? I cannot remember the original publisher. I'm not sure a new X-COM would fly in today's market... or at least what game companies think the current market is. Turn based is a small market, and unless your name is Sid Meyers... good luck. ;) But that would be interesting to see another X-COM game. Not sure I would play it, but seeing another ZFX-based squad and their associated stories from Japher would be cool. ;)

It sounds like 2K Games holds the licenses now.  Makes me glad Take Two did not end up being bought out by EA.  It would make me sad to have to associate X-COM with EA.  Microprose was the original publisher, by the way.

As far as a market for it, it certainly would not be able to be a big-budget game.  But if Disgaea 3, a niche-market game on the PS3, can be released in the US, I don't see why a new X-COM game couldn't be made.  PCs get niche-market games all the time.  It's just a matter of budget.

Also, were you aware that Sid Meier was one of the two founders of Microprose?

Microprose... right. Forgot about that. And nope, forgot that Sid was in with them. Probably knew that at some point. Since I was a fan of those guys back in the day.

If all goes according to plan, I hope to be testing X-COM in Vista tonight.
