    Same question different year

It's tax rebate time! If you could have either an XBOX 360, PS3, or Wii... which one would you get?

Prefer goofy shit (ChuChu Rocket was fucking awesome) and RPGs over action/shooters since the PC already fills that purpose. Makes me think Wii would be the way to go, but I really don't know jack about any of them. Whatcha think?

I would think the Wii because you have the PC to fill th other needs and wants. You can do things on the Wii that you cant on the PC.

    And Crazy has one.

I would go the PS3 route. I just love the system and wouldnt trade it in for either, Granted the Wii is drunken fun at its best and has several fun exclusive games(SSB:Brawl)

It's hard to compare the Wii to the Xbox 360 and PS3, since it's such a different experience.  The Wii is great when you have people over (you remember playing Tennis at my place, right?), but I haven't played it much outside that.  Of course, there are a few good games that I haven't picked up yet, but again, I think games like Spuer Smash Bros. and Mario Kart would be more fun playing with others.  The Virtual Console thing is pretty cool though.  I've picked up a few games for it, such as Punch-Out (sadly, the Tyson-free version) for the NES and SimCity for the SNES.  It's five dollars for NES-era games, eight dollars for SNES-era games, and ten dollars for N64-era games.

If you're trying to decide between the Xbox 360 and the PS3, I think the PS3 would be a better fit for you.  The 360 sseems to have the better shooters, and PS3 is stronger on RPGs, at least as far as system-exclusives go.  Also, I'll mention this since I know you're a fan of the series, but Disgaea 3 comes out for the PS3 in August.  That game is probably what will make me break down and get a PS3.

So, from what you've said, I can at least narrow it down between the Wii and the PS3.

    Re: Same question different year

I think the best analogy for the Wii is probably that it is the 'board game' of the 21st century. There are all these board games that we would play like risk, or that one WWII game that Japher and I would play all the damn time... or in your case meaty, candy mountain. Anyway, it is a system meant for party type events where the major part of the fun is experiencing the games with friends. A friend of mine was telling me over the weekend that he and his brother were playing Mario Kart with their phones out on speaker, so they could talk to one another while playing. And so now I am talking with him on how to set up vid conference junk to make that whole process even better. Would we be playing it just by ourselves? Nope. I have Super Smash Bros, but do I play it single player? Nope.

So, if you want a system that can take the place of board games, then the Wii is awesome. There are a few games I hear that are good like that on the 360.

If you want a system that you can plunk down infront of and just kill hours playing games, sounds like you would like the PS3 more then the 360 based on what Japher said. For the 360 though, it is really meant for more then just game playing. The PS3 has that to some extent, but the 360 more so right now. You can download all sorts of things, including movies. You can purchase say a high def copy of a newly released to DVD moview and start watching it within a few minutes. It is all in the XBOX Live Marketplace. Sony wants to do the same thing on the PS3, it is just not there yet. MS is also planning to offer the ability to get your TV a la carte from them as well. You want NBC, SciFi, and The Discovery Channel, but nothing else? Fine, order those three channels for 5 bucks a month (price is a guess) and they stream via the 360. That is coming soon from what I understand.

Another point in favor of the PS3 would be the Blu-Ray drive it has.  Now that Blu-Ray has won the high-definition DVD war, it is even more of a plus than it was at launch.  Also, because of the built-in hard drive, it is upgradable to the new Blu-Ray 2.0 standard, whenever it gets released.  You won't need to get a new unit, or upgrade the drive to take advantage of the new features.  Now, I know that you don't have an HDTV (or, at least you didn't last time I was out there), but if you ever get one in the future, you can take advantage of that feature as well.

Now Doc has me wanting a PC (or console, I suppose) version of Axis & Allies that doesn't crash every thirty minutes or so.  With online capability, too, obviously.  That game was so much fun.

OK, so 360 is out. Was originally leaning to Wii... but it's hard to abandon both Disgaea 3 and GTA4.

Aside from my fascination with the Wii controller is the aforementioned odd shit. Here's an example. I would love to toy around with something like this... but how long before this kind of novelty wears off? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endless_Ocean

    Thanks for the feedback.

Axs and Allies, that's right. That game did rule. The PC version never could quite compare though. "America is ready to attack? Oh, okay... <BSOD>" I am sure it was developed by Germans.

That would be sweet for them to try again with that game. Chuck some needless 3D shit in there... maybe ask EA to make it, they'll make anything. And hell, it can't be any worse.

Anyway, the Wii I think has that nifty new and different feeling going for it. Which I am sure wears off pretty quick. I have not played mine all that much. Just when others come around. And for games like Super Smash Brothers, the nifty controller blows goats. You do not even use the motion sensing part of it. Just a normal controller. And I am sitting there wishing I had a normal Game Cube Wireless controller... but oh right, Nintendo discontinued them like 6 months ago. WTF?! Oh well, I could buy a new 'classic' controller or plug one of my wired GC controllers in to play the game. But then I could not sit right infront of my TV based on where I placed the Wii. That is why it has freakin wireless controllers. Yea... anyway...

I have GTA4 as well, and meh. It is sort of interesting. But I think the fancy part of that game wore off after GTA3. Seems like more of the same to me now... just the world is more open to what it lets you do. The cut scenes are kind of bad now I think. They went I think maybe too far with the graphics and people look fake. Like they were trying to make them ultra realistic and almost got there. But, they got close enough to make it look like everyone got beat with an ugly stick. And that game has always screamed for a mouse and keyboard control. Oh, which you can connect to the PS3. Any Bluetooth keyboard and mouse will work. But there are only a handful of games that support it. Any of which that is FPS and has online options I believe disable them due to an unfair advantage or something. They should just ship them with a keyboard and mouse and be done.

I mainly use my PS3 as a Blu Ray disc player. Best one on the market IMO.

I say save your money and buy a bag of cookies. You'll get more enjoyment from the cookies then you will any of the consoles games now a days. As a PC gamer, you'll just be dissapointed.

Better hope they don't break, because there is no replacing them now.

They won't break any time soon.  They mostly collect dust right now.  I barely use even one as it is.

I eBayed a Wii.  We were in Best Buy, there was a "Wii Fit" demo up. Melissa became fascinated. There's the tie breaker.

It was on YouTube, but was taken down. That leads me to believe that he's totally fucking dead.

I got this off of FARK. Not a good place to be if you're hoping to keep a low profile. Dead dead DEAD! Ah that's funny.
